What a wonderful world!
Louis Armstrong said it so well – “What a wonderful world!” Twenty-five years ago, JoAnn
Brorson assembled a select group of La Crosse singers to explore the rich and fascinating
world of music for small chorus, creating the La Crosse Chamber Chorale. Several of our
based chorus with singers from all walks of life. Over the years, we’ve remained true to our
mission “to present a varied repertoire of professional quality choral music.” We’ve been
humbled and deeply gratified varied repertoire of professional quality choral music.” We’ve
been humbled and deeply gratified by your enthusiastic response. We are proud members of
UFAH (La Crosse’s United Fund for the Arts and Humanities) and the Wisconsin Arts Board
has recognized our artistic and organizational integrity with its generous support.
Even more important to us is your response. We’ve worked hard to find and prepare the most
interesting and engaging music possible. We’ve sung music from Rachmaninoff to a Bluegrass
Mass, from Palestrina and Bach to Eric Whitacre and Arvo Pärt. Each year more of you have
purchased season tickets, and more patrons of the arts have chosen to support the La Crosse
Chamber Chorale with donations.
I think that we’re most successful when we come closest to Beethoven’s ideal, expressed in
the words he wrote on the score of his monumental Missa Solemnis, composed near the end of
his life: “from the heart – may it go to the heart.” The music we sing expresses beautiful,
provocative and sometimes humorous ideas and emotions. When we’re successful, we
illuminate and transmit once again the composer’s and the poet’s artistic vision, and upon
singing and hearing we’re all led once more to Louis Armstrong’s joyous conclusion: “What a
wonderful world!”
