Conductor

Paul Rusterholz started taking piano lessons and
singing in a children’s church choir when he was
seven years old. He credits his music-loving parents
with sending him to a great piano teacher, Gertrude
Flor. At House of Hope Church in St. Paul he was
fascinated with the sound of the pipe organ, and with
the carillon, which was played by his father. He took
organ lessons from Eugene Nordgren.
At Macalester College he sang in the Concert Choir
under Dale Warland. While at the University of
Southern California, Paul studied conducting with
Rodney Eichenberger and Hans Beer. From 1978-89,
he directed the choirs at the College of St. Teresa in
Winona, Minnesota. Paul recently retired from the
University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, where he
conducted the UW-L Choral Union and the UW-L
Women’s Chorus from 1989-2011.
Paul is a member of the International Federation for
Choral Music, the American Choral Directors’
Association, Chorus America, and the National
Association of Teachers of Singing. He enjoys
canoeing, cross country skiing, and traveling to New
York City with his wife Barbara to visit their son Tim.
